Terms of Use

Last updated October 4, 2026. Applies to the SideNotch app and to sidenotch-mac.vercel.app.

The short version

SideNotch is free while it is in early access, and future versions will be paid. You may use it on your own Macs. It comes as is, with no warranty. You are responsible for your own data and for keeping a backup.

About these terms

SideNotch is made and maintained by poolmoot, an individual developer. By downloading or using the app, or by using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

Your licence

SideNotch is closed-source software. I give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it on Macs that you own or control, for your own use, for as long as these terms are followed.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute SideNotch, host copies of it, or present it as your own. You may not copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer it, or remove its notices, except where the law gives you that right and does not allow it to be waived. These terms apply to SideNotch 1.1.0 and later. A version you received earlier under another licence stays under that licence.

The name SideNotch and its logo identify this product. Please do not use them in a way that suggests another product comes from, or is endorsed by, it.

Early access and price

SideNotch is in early access. It is free today, and you do not need an account or a payment method. Future versions will be paid. I will announce the price and terms on this site before any version asks you to pay, and nothing is charged now. Early access means the app can change, have bugs and lose features between versions.

No warranty

SideNotch is provided as is, without a warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. That includes any promise that it is free of bugs, that it suits a particular purpose, or that it will keep working with future versions of macOS.

To the fullest extent the law allows, poolmoot is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the app or the website, or from not being able to, including lost notes, lost reminders, missed appointments or lost files.

None of this removes rights or liability that the law does not let me remove. Where you have mandatory consumer rights, or where a loss is caused deliberately or through gross negligence, those stay as they are.

Installing and updating

SideNotch is not notarized by Apple, because there is no paid developer account behind it. macOS therefore asks you to confirm once under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. That choice is yours. The app is signed ad hoc, and every update is signed so the app can check it before installing.

The app looks for updates automatically, downloads them in the background and restarts into them when you are not using it. Each update carries a signature that the app checks first. What the update check sends is described in the Privacy Policy.

The website

You may read and share this site freely. Please do not attack it, overload it or try to get around its security. I may change, move or take down any page at any time. The site and the downloads are offered without any promise that they will always be available.

Links to other sites are there for your convenience. I do not control those sites and I am not responsible for them.

Changes and contact

I may update these terms when the app or the site changes, and I will change the date at the top. If you keep using SideNotch after a change, you accept the new version. Because future versions will be paid, expect the terms to be extended before that happens. I will announce it on this site first.
