macOS 26 or later · Apple silicon and Intel · no hardware notch needed

Good to know.

Is it really free?
Yes, while SideNotch is in early access. There’s no account, no card and nothing to unlock. Future versions will be paid, and I’ll say so on this page before that happens.
Do I need a MacBook with a notch?
No. SideNotch lives on the left or right edge of the screen, not at the top, so it works the same on any Mac and any external display.
Does the shelf copy or move my files?
Neither. It remembers where each file is, so nothing on your disk changes when you drop a file in. Dragging a file out copies it to where you drop it. If you move or delete the original, the shelf marks it as missing.
Why does macOS warn me the first time?
Apple checks apps that come from a paid developer account, and SideNotch isn’t notarized yet. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about SideNotch and click Open Anyway. You only do this once. After that it opens like any other app.
